A common misconception: “Combo Brows always heal too dark”
Some clients worry that Combination Brows will heal too dark simply because shading is added.
In reality, brows may look darker during the first week, but as healing progresses and light peeling occurs, the colour softens and settles into a natural, well-blended result.
“Natural” does not mean “always light.”
It means a colour that suits your brow hair tone or your usual makeup shade — and it can range from subtle to more defined depending on your preference.
Why some Combo Brows look darker in photos
If you naturally have very dark, thick brow hair, or if you have strong remaining pigment from previous tattoo work, choosing a much lighter colour is often not helpful.
It can create uneven contrast and appear less natural.
In these cases, the best approach is to match your brow hair tone closely and design the shading to softly balance and cover existing pigment.
That is why some Combination Brow results may look darker — it’s intentional for harmony and coverage, not because the technique automatically heals dark.
For clients who prefer a more defined, stable shape
Some clients prefer a more defined result compared to stroke-only techniques such as Microblading or BioStroke.
In these cases, we first create realistic hair strokes, then add soft shading to help the shape and colour appear more stable as they fade.
This does not mean the brows will last for many extra years.
All cosmetic tattoos placed at the correct skin depth will gradually soften and fade over 1–2 years.
However, compared to stroke-only techniques, Combination Brows tend to maintain their shape more consistently as they lighten over time.
How the appointment works
Clients choosing Combination Brows will first select their preferred stroke technique — Microblading or BioStroke — and then have soft shading added to complete the look.
Still unsure?
If this is your first brow tattoo, many clients choose to start with a stroke-only technique.
If you later decide you’d prefer a deeper colour or more defined shape, soft shading can be added at your touch-up appointment for an additional $50.
That said, in some cases, a Combination Brow approach may be recommended from the start, depending on your natural brow hair, skin condition, or existing pigment.
